History

In this company’s early days we were involved quite heavily with EDI. ELECTRONIC DATA INTERCHANGE was a growing trend enabling buyer and seller to integrate their computer systems so that order, despatch, and payment information was automatically migrated from one to another. EDI spawned numerous ‘standards’ such as EDIFACT and ANSI X81 and was the very first appearance of eBusiness Systems.

Although EDI is still in use by some companies, it is a dying technology, long outdated by the ferocious growth of the internet, corporate business platforms and its huge cost overhead. GEN has for many years provided EDI like services to companies on a bespoke basis over IP and to some degree developed standards for data interchange. Our SmartQuery platform, whilst its primary role is securely web-enabling corporate systems, in many cases has EDI like functions provided.

Ideology

The way people do business is changing. Companies are streamlining their procurement systems, accountants are fine tuning cash flow and sales teams are far more targeted than ever before. Businesses are pushing harder and faster, investing more and more in technology and systems in order to maintain a competitive edge, maximise efficiency and achieve their goals. Traditionally, the quotation, purchase order, invoice and payment are all inputted by different people, introducing the potential for errors and misunderstanding. The solution is to enter the data once, and then simply share the data between supplier and customer without error and without delay. The eBusiness Core

The Core of GENActive is a unified transaction processor that is truly multi-region and multi-currency, With links to 2351 banks in 199 countries we can provide the most comprehensive automated processing service. Built upon this core are a number of interfaces and automation processors; we have provided a comprehensive Web interface to GENActive, allowing full manual control of automation processes and detailed transaction history and status. It has embedded support for tax processing, shipping charging/routing, online order tracking via the web, credit performance, debt collection, SMS notifications, RFQ (Request Quotation) and supplier selection logic, online order and payment tracking, and financial reporting interfaces.

Automation Processors Include, VISA, MASTERCARD, SWITCH, SOLO, AMEX, JCB, BANK DRAFT, CHEQUE, DIRECT CREDIT, IMO, and even CASH.

Interoperability

Integration with foreign systems was a primary design consideration with GENActive, and we’ve achieved that by providing multiple interfaces to the eBusiness core. You can communicate with GENActive via HTTP, by flat ASCII transaction file, with Email encapsulated transactions, using XML or via a custom built interface using GENActive API’s. Use GENActive BUYNOW or BUYONACCOUT functions from your website to enable fully integrated eCommerce with eBusiness interfaces to your corporate systems. .

Security

The GENActive system incorporates 4kbit RCA/DSS Security for both the connection between the browser and the service, and the service and database. GENActive has extremely verbose event logging and auditing with realtime automated analysis to audit, detect and highlight any possible issues with the system. GENActive also makes full use of referential integrity systems to ensure the structure of the data. The service is monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by a team of dedicated professionals.

Resilience and Availability

The GENActive system will be available online 99.8% of the time. GENActive will be offline for very short periods during regular maintenance and upgrades, during which time transaction processing will continue. The availability of the transaction processors depends on the systems of the banking corporation operating the processor. VISA for example expect their service to be available 99.9%.
